Elementary School
The elementary program is divided into two classrooms. Grades 1-3 are grouped together as are grades 4-6. This grouping, using a rotating curriculum, allows students to learn more freely at their own pace, while allowing the teacher more time with the student to better support them in working with their unique learning styles.
A thematic curriculum is documented in a way that allows the student interest and emergent learning to occur. Included in these studies are camping, Wisdom of the Hands, PE, Music and Farming. The students gain ownership through this process. Study skills are taught and emphasized through the use of Notebooks that develop in complexity as the students move through the grades. The communication between teachers integrates the curriculum across the classes further developing the lower school community.
Opportunities outside the classroom between the grades enrich learning processes, social skills and conflict resolution. Camping, field trips and recess are opportunities for multi-age interaction. Altogether, these activities create cohesion and a sense of belonging to the school family.
